Equipment Fit and Consistency is Key

Properly Fit Equipment is Key

The three most common things golfers are searching for are: Consistency, Accuracy, and Distance.  Since improved consistency leads to better accuracy and more distance, it's no surprise that objective is the priority of an overwhelming majority.  Consistency is not only based on your swing, but also your equipment; therefore, properly fit and consistent equipment is key to realizing these objectives.

The three most important factors in fitting and equipment consistency are length, weight, and shaft flex.

  • Length and Length Progression The first step in consistency is to have clubs that are the correct length and get consistently shorter as you go from driver to lob wedge.
  • Weight and Weight Progression As your clubs get shorter, the static weight should get slightly heavier while the swing weight remains balanced in order to keep a consistent feel throughout the set.
  • Shaft Flex Most importantly the shaft flex at both the butt end and tip end of the shaft should match your swing profile, with a logical progression of flex within woods and hybrids to a consistent flex throughout your irons.

While these three characteristics may sound simple and straight-forward, finding clubs with each matching your needs is more complex.
